Fire safety training

On 10th October, a fire protection training for employees of the ROS Group took place at the Coburg fire brigade. 17 participants from the ROS in Coburg and Ummerstadt, as well as from Kunststofftechnik ROS and Kunststofftechnik Schnitzler took part. It is a legal requirement that at least 5 % of all employees of a company must be fire protection assistants. Therefore, the fire protection officer of the ROS Group, Wolfgang Müller, organised a fire protection assistant training at the Coburg fire brigade. The half-day training was divided into a theoretical and a practical part.

In the theoretical part, questions were clarified such as: What is fire? How do I prevent fire? What possibilities do I have to recognise fire? How do I behave as an assistant when evacuating? What is the right way to fight a fire? What is the right way to use a fire extinguisher?

This was followed by the practical part: extinguishing different types of fires was discussed, demonstrated and then practised by the participants themselves. Extinguishing different types of fires (solid or liquid fires) with a fire extinguisher was trained on a device called FIREtrainer. This played a central role in the training, as well as learning the handling of fire. In addition, various dangerous scenarios were simulated in a safe environment. For example, the participants could see what happens when spray cans are exposed to heat or when the wrong extinguishing agent is used. Burning grease should never be extinguished with water.

"Many thanks to all participants," says Wolfgang Müller. "It is tremendously important that we continue to have enough employees who are trained as fire safety assistants. This is the only way we can guarantee that no one will come to harm in an emergency."
